Music together updates keep pouring in (for a refresher, see our previous posts here, here and here).
First off, Jana has now become a registered Music Together teacher. That means she’s completed the mentor stage and after one year of teaching she will become a full-up, legitimate “certified teacher.” I hope I got the terminology right.
On Thursday (March 5) Jana and the director of the Music Institute of Chicago held a demo Music Together class on campus here at Trinity. Everyone was excited about the class including the director, the parents and Jana. The director thinks it’s great that Jana is willing to teach these classes. The moms are looking forward to it for their kids. One Mom from Africa came up afterwards and said she thought this could be a great way of doing outreach in Africa. So these classes at Trinity could have even more of an impact than we anticipated.
It looks like everything is good to go to start at least one class on campus. The goal is to start by March 16. Not too far off! It looks like there is plenty of interest on campus since there can be only a max 12 children in any one class. Also, though the families will pay only for materials, Music Together headquarters is working on finding grant money so that Jana will be paid. We have no idea what that would be but from the beginning our goal was just to get the certification with no plan of being compensated so anything would be a welcome addition!
