Elisabeth doesn’t have as many camps as Max but that’s a good thing. She missed the first semester of intensive German while we were in the States and she’s using the summer to catch up. But she’s still had time to fit in a Fusion music camp as well as an unexpected mission assignment.
The third year of our partnership with Judson Baptist in Nahsville, TN brings a new twist. This year a team of 7 teenagers (including our Elisabeth) with two leaders will be sent by our Banská Bystrica congregation to serve at a VBS at Judson.
This year’s baptism ceremony was encouraging in more ways than one. For one thing, nine people were baptized and that’s more than in any of the five years that we’ve been here in Banská Bystrica. But that’s not all…
Trinity College sends their concert choir and symphonic band on tour each year–usually in the States, sometimes overseas. This year they’re touring Europe with stops in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, France and Austria. Their first stop in Slovakia was right here in Banská Bystrica to spend the day with Narnia Elementary School and give a concert downtown in the historic Town Hall.
We have two big events coming up in May and July as the school year comes to a close. Trinity Ensemble will arrive May 16 from Deerfield, IL to make Banská Bystrica the first stop on their European tour. In July we will join forces with a team from Judson Baptist in Nashville, TN to put on an English day camp for fifth and sixth graders from the community.
We’ve finally gotten snow in Slovakia so it’s time to put up the winter gallery. Enjoy photos of new places we’ve discovered on our adventure walks around our property (more cliffs!), our congregation’s New Year’s celebration, and our trip to see Jana’s brother in Belgium (before this year we hadn’t seen them in almost 10 years, which means we met Oliver and Maxim for the first time this year).
