In a previous post I mentioned that things were looking up for Jana to be able to assistant teach for a local Music Together program. Well things have come together and she started last week. At first she was just observing but starting tomorrow they will gradually be increasing her involvement. Tomorrow for example, she will lead the children in one song.
Music Together is like Kindermusik or Musikgarten, it’s designed to teach basic music skills to preschoolers (singing in tune and keeping a beat–skills they consider to be as important as reading and writing, and even walking) and help parents have the skills to encourage them toward musical growth.
We think there is all kinds of potential for using something like this as an outreach tool in Slovakia. The weekly lessons are attended by the preschoolers but also by one or both parents. Because the parents are involved we think it’s a great way to meet new people. Potential for outreach is increased if we can hold the lessons in the church or in the school that is associated with the church (at present we have absolutely no idea if they would have any interest). There’s even the potential for Jana to facilitate the training of other Music Together teachers in Slovakia which would broaden even further the potential for outreach.
Just to make it clear, all of these things are little more than ideas right now. We just wanted to let you know why we keep updating you on this topic.
