Max loves climbing and he loves the outdoors. If he could, he’d spend all his time hiking in the mountains in our back yard (and beyond) and surviving on whatever he can make do with from the forest. So he’s the perfect candidate to interview for a climbing segment on local TV.

We’ve introduced a little more variety into our spring photo gallery. Hiking still plays a big part. Since moving to Banská Bystrica, it’s been a tradition for us to kick off the hiking season with the Haja family on the Monday after Easter. Despite an early Easter, this year was no exception and we enjoyed a nice hike through a canyon in northern Slovakia. But along with those hiking photos we’ve got photos from a Roma congregation, preparation for summer ministries, a concert by Trinity College, and more.

Some time ago I wrote about Max controlling the internal dialogue. This past weekend was a symbolic milestone for just that since Max had a chance to repeat a climb that gave him lots of trouble last year. (Updated with video of his finals climb at the Slovak Champion Climbing Tournament.)

Max recently competed in the final climbing competition of the 2014 season in Slovakia. After struggling this year with controlling his head in the middle of his climbs he turned in two brilliant routes to earn a second place finish for the competition. Way to go Max!
