I guess this is kind of a throw away post. I could have also titled it, “How to Drive (Unwanted) Traffic to Your Site” or “Weird Things People Search For.”
I try to pay attention to how much traffic the different posts on my site get so I know what people find interesting and whether or not it’s worth my time investing in the blog. So far I’ve been pleasantly surprised (maybe I had low expectations).
Besides traffic to the different areas of content, I can also see what people search for that ends up driving them to our site. That statistic is not so important for me but it sure can be interesting. For example, a few months ago I started a series on Genesis 1 and the creation account. In the first post I used a picture of a guy in a bombsuit because this topic can cause some very explosive reactions. You have to be very careful how you address the issue. You know–like defusing a bomb.
Well, well, well. Little did I know. I think I’ve had over 100 people visit our site as a result of searching for “bomb suit.” This week seemed to be an especially hot week for bomb suit searches and now I think I know why. Could it be the Oscar nominations for the movie “The Hurt Locker.”
I can’t wait to see how much faux traffic this post drives to our site.
Oh, and here’s another interesting factoid. Somebody searched for “big gnab.” But I’m a little disappointed that no one has searched for “januflection.”
