Bible Translation

2012-10-14 by Todd 1 Comment

I’ve been discovering that having my dissertation finished means not only that I can now turn my attention to new tasks on my to-do list, but that new opportunities also come knocking.

with all your heart

It’s been my goal to preach or to teach in a local congregation once per month. So far I’ve been able to keep that up. In September I had the chance to teach on Gen 2:18-25 at the Czech and Slovak pastors’ conference for the Cirkev bratská. Then in October I preached on Proverbs in our local congregation and in November I took a group of pastors through the book of Acts at a preaching conference.

One opportunity that I didn’t count on, however, is the chance to participate on the the Slovak Bible Society’s “Theological Commission for the Revision of the Slovak Ecumenical Translation of the Bible.” Earlier this fall I was nominated by our denomination (the Cirkev bratská) to serve on the Old Testament committee. Our current assignment is to review 1,000 suggested changes to the Slovak Ecumenical Translation which was completed in 2007.

I’m looking forward to gaining some experience in a new aspect of Biblical studies.

What an honour Todd. This will undoubtedly expand your horizons in way never expected when you first set foot in Slovakia many years ago. Pastor Cobrada would be very proud 🙂
