It’s time once again for our biennial home assignment trip to the United States to report on our ministry in Slovakia. We’ll be arriving in Chicago on June 25 and departing on August 22. This year we have a different goal than usual and there are lots of ways we need help to make this an effective time in the States.
A New Challenge and a Different Goal
Usually during our trips to the States we focus on touching base with supporting churches and individuals in order to strengthen ties with our supporters. We’ll continue to do that, but with more emphasis on making new connections with people and churches interested in Slovakia, Europe, theological education, Christian elementary and middle school education, Christian counseling, creative evangelism or equipping church planting movements.
Part of the reason for this shift is the reality of our support level. Our small and faithful support team came through for us big time when we faced a challenge this last fall. Now we need to increase our monthly support in order to increase the sustainability of our ministry long term.
But there are other reasons. We’re excited about the ministry in Slovakia and believe there could be more people who would like to partner, maybe in ways that we haven’t anticipated.
For example, Narnia is always looking for people to join them as native speaker teachers of English at the elementary and middle school levels. Our congregation is starting a counseling ministry that will bridge the ministries of Narnia Elementary and the local church. Our seminary offers accredited Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD degrees with the possibility of studying in English. Our seminary is also experiencing an existential crisis as the university system in Slovakia continues to struggle. All of these are challenges and opportunities that might be of interest to potential ministry partners.
We Need Your Help!
There are some specific ways we need help to make this home assignment an effective time of ministry.
First, please pray for wisdom and opportunities to share. Specifically you can pray that we would find two churches and five individuals that would join our ministry team.
Second, if you or someone you know is interested in any of the areas I’ve mentioned (Slovakia, Europe, theological education, Christian elementary and middle school education, creative evangelism or equipping church planting movements) let us know! Do you know a student who might be interested in studying theology abroad? Do you know someone that might be interested in teaching English to elementary school kids? Do you know theologians that might like to support theological education overseas?
Third, Todd is always looking for opportunities to teach (Genesis, the story of the Bible, other OT books…) or preach. We’d also be happy to share with a small group, Sunday school or any informal meeting. We’ll be in Northern Illinois for most of July and August.
Let’s make a connection.
