It seemed to me like a cliffhanger. Our ministry account with ReachGlobal had dropped below the minimum required for a family. That triggered budgeting measures like no more reimbursement of ministry expenses. Most importantly, I wasn’t going to be able to renew my teaching contract with the seminary since it’s funded through our ministry account. I was even beginning to get a little nervous that we’d have to leave the field before our next scheduled home assignment.
In October I mentioned our situation in a newsletter and I was surprised by the rapid and generous response. We got several special contributions that boosted our account level back up above the minimum. But still, I wasn’t going to be able to renew my teaching contract with the seminary.
I had already let the head of the seminary know and I myself was resigned to the idea that it wasn’t going to work out. And this was just when I was just beginning to feel like I was able to make a contribution beyond teaching duties. That’s when First Evangelical Free Church of Rockford initiated a matching grant to fund my position. I announced that matching grant in December.
Wow! The response from our support team was amazing. Lots of people made generous gifts that covered the grant for my teaching position and gave us breathing room even in the face of our low monthly support.
What an affirmation of our ministry! We’re thankful for every single person that prays and gives. We are praying for you as well. We’re also thankful for our God who has shown his faithfulness to us again and again.
Thanks for being God’s instrument that keeps our ministry strong and healthy in Slovakia!
