It’s the second week of July and the second week of summer break (yes, our school year goes all the way to the end of June). We have a niece from US visiting here in Banská Bystrica and of course we go to the square for ice-cream. As we are sitting down with our treat I hear from nearby: ”Hello, Mrs. Jana!” and we exchange friendly waves with my first grade student.
Soon this happens again with a different student. As we are leaving the ice cream parlor a third family walks by and a little girl runs to give me a warm hug.
At the end of the week, I show up at a Bible camp for our students led by a team from our church. And there are more exciting meetings of surprise. What a joy to see a boy whose parents chose Narnia because of academic excellence in spite of being a Christian school.
At the start of the year the boy copied his parents’ disbelief and distrust but soon he became interested, expressing his questions and eagerness to learn about the Bible for the first time. The attitude of his parents changed. They were caught off guard by their son’s life questions and an interest was stirred in them as well. What a joy to see this boy at the end of the intense week of Bible camp happy and full of exciting memories.
I’m so grateful that my colleagues and I at Narnia have this opportunity to nurture and educate the kids entrusted to us.

In September I’m back to teaching English, Music, Drama and Bible class 🙂 .
