1,000 Years of History Hits (My) Home

treaty-of-trianon

I am the only one in my family that is not a citizen of the Slovak Republic. Jana has Slovak citizenship because she was born in Slovakia and thanks to her so do Elisabeth and Max. All of them also have US citizenships. Jana became a citizen of the United States just a few weeks after Elisabeth was born and since Slovakia recognizes dual citizenship she did not lose her Slovak citizenship by becoming a citizen of the United States.

So far this has been very nice.

Our Beautiful Ballerina (video)

Our beautiful ballerina

Elisabeth has just finished her third year of ballet with the annual end of the year recital. After the jump you will find a video of the performance for beginner level 2. I thought it was beautifully done. We’re very proud of her progress!

If you would like to see a few photos you can find them in the galleries. Once on the gallery page, click on the “All Categories” button on the bottom left, then look for the category “ballet recital.”

Also, we haven’t said much about it, but over the past year Jana

Unrequited Love (Ode to Jana)

You’ll find quite a few posts on this blog with updates on Jana’s Music Together endeavors and I suppose most everyone knows she keeps busy with the kids and taking on a lot of the family responsibilities we might usually share more of in normal circumstances. And of course she also serves the Trinity community or church in various ways. But you may not be aware of a certain passion Jana has developed that also absorbs a lot of her time and efforts–that is her passion for a healthy and natural lifestyle.

You can enjoy a sampling with this recipe for Baked Pasta with Lentils (courtesy of our sister-in-law, Ivana).

And hear ye now, this ode to Jana…

If you like gibbons (my favorite lesser ape ;-) ), here’s a video clip of a brachiating gibbon.

We took our first family vacation in a long time during spring break, enjoying a week with grandma Terry in Phoenix, AZ. Perhaps the highlights of the trip included our encounters with creation.

Hello Everybody! (video)

Every Music Together lesson begins with the song, “Hello, Everybody!”

Sledding with Horses (video)

Someday I may create a special page for family and ministry videos but for now you can watch this clip of Jana and Max sledding in my parents’ pasture with about 30 miniature horses.

Music Together at Trinity 2010 (video)

Here’s a very short clip from one of Jana’s Music Together at Trinity classes from last semester.

This week will be the second week in the winter session (four sessions per year). She got lots of positive feedback from her fall classes. The further into the Music Together program she gets, the more she likes it. I’ve been trying to get her to write up a short reflection on why–we’ll see if she can find some time in the next few months.

Right Place at the Right Time: Visiting with the Nitra Delegation in Naperville

As I was looking for Slovakia news to post through our twitter account (see our events page) I ran into an article in the Naperville Sun about a delegation from Nitra, Slovakia that recently visited Naperville, IL.  Nitra and Naperville are sister cities and this year a delegation from Slovakia visited Nitra to share ideas and resources in areas such as religion, higher education, and public safety.
