On New Year’s Eve I spent 45 minutes conducting delicate surgery on a miniDV cassette in hopes of recovering our lost video clips from our 2005 vacation in Croatia. Was it worth it? From all of us to all of you with heartfelt thanks for your friendship: I hope you enjoy our video rendition of the annual family Christmas letter.
At Bannockburn Elementary School third grade is the year kids can start working with the school orchestra. Elisabeth decided she wanted to learn violin and this is her first performance. It was an extra special treat that Grandma and Grandpa were willing to drive over two hours to watch her play in the Winter Concert. At our house, we have our time of family Scripture reading and prayer before bedtime. One Sunday Max decided he wanted to read the Bible during our family worship time. Then Elisabeth decided she wanted to join in. What followed was a mix of liturgical church service and family devotions. It was actually pretty impressive. I’ve talked with people whose parents would often invite missionaries to stay with their family whenever they passed through on deputation. Some have told me what an impression it left on them to hear those missionary stories while growing up. They were amazed and even inspired at the sacrifice and faith they saw in missionary families who visited them. Elisabeth and Max had their last swimming lesson today. They both made lots of improvement during their four weeks of lessons. A couple weeks ago Elisabeth wanted to show me her new diving skills–but not until she was good and ready, and had a little fun teasing me. Max thought the diving looked like fun so he mustered up his courage to see if he could do it, too. It’s summer time! Elisabeth and Max sure were glad when the school year ended and we sure were glad to see their report cards. We’re proud of their progress I am the only one in my family that is not a citizen of the Slovak Republic. Jana has Slovak citizenship because she was born in Slovakia and thanks to her so do Elisabeth and Max. All of them also have US citizenships. Jana became a citizen of the United States just a few weeks after Elisabeth was born and since Slovakia recognizes dual citizenship she did not lose her Slovak citizenship by becoming a citizen of the United States. So far this has been very nice.
Elisabeth has just finished her third year of ballet with the annual end of the year recital. After the jump you will find a video of the performance for beginner level 2. I thought it was beautifully done. We’re very proud of her progress! If you would like to see a few photos you can find them in the galleries. Once on the gallery page, click on the “All Categories” button on the bottom left, then look for the category “ballet recital.” Also, we haven’t said much about it, but over the past year Jana | |
