Our March, 2011 family and ministry update is now available. Of course it is now May, but I was holding off because I wanted to share the news of our departure in this edition. Besides that great news, I also have my first ever dissertation progress report and an update on Jana’s Music Together.
During the process of writing the dissertation I’m supposed to be turning in chapters for my advisor (first reader) to look over, comment on, request revision, etc. Because of the nature of my dissertation, I decided to complete chapters 1-4 (out of eight chapters) and submit them all at once. I submitted those chapter in early March and on Friday, April 29th I sat down with my advisor to hear his recommendations. This was a very important meeting for me because early in the writing process I decided to take a bit of a risk and I wasn’t sure it would pay off.
People are all the time asking us if Elisabeth and Max are excited about the move to Slovakia and all I usually have to say is the standard, “Uhhh, yes and no.” So I thought I’d do a short interview with them so you can hear just how they would answer themselves.
Yesterday I spent a good part of the day reading the Slovak law about visa requirements and searching for websites that could possibly help explain the process of applying for a visa.
It’s hard to believe we’ve been in the States for more than five years now. We’re looking forward to going back to Slovakia, but it’s nice to look back at some of the memories we’ve made. I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I happened to have the video camera out one night when I had the kids to myself. Our January, 2011 family and ministry update is now available. In this update we look back at 2010 and forward to 2011 for our annual beginning of the year “januflection.” Since we’re expecting to move to Slovakia this year, it’s going to be an exciting adventure.
On New Year’s Eve I spent 45 minutes conducting delicate surgery on a miniDV cassette in hopes of recovering our lost video clips from our 2005 vacation in Croatia. Was it worth it?
Not counting a few years of experimentation and “finding its way,” 2010 was the first full year that toddjana.com was in operation. Since this is the time of year for januflecting (looking back and looking ahead), I thought I would share some of what I think are the highlights of 2010.
Last year I wrote a sort of poem for our Christmas card. The poem itself was not so great, but it was actually an experiment in mimesis (something I’m still planning on writing more about). Somehow, I ended up writing a poem again for this year’s Christmas card and, like last year, this year’s poem was a bit of an experiment. In this poem I’m trying to blend the influences of the Gospel of Luke, the Gospel of John, Caravaggio, and Hebrew poetry. |   |
